I can't wait to see this...it seems (going by reviews) to be one of the most balanced gay films I have seen.

the review in the gay film festival guide for SF ends with the by stating that the writer/director' whole point is "acknowleding your homosexuality is just one of the steps along the path of discovering exactly what kind of gay man you are."

Huh? That's the easy part. And the part that is most undeniable, depending on how a gay person and an andro may choose to 'acknowledge' his sexuality.

Unfortunately, I doubt the film will make it to a theatre in Philly. I'll probably have to buy it on DVD. Needless to say I'm indescribably interested in seeing it. But I must say that the title itself suggests a fairly deep culturally gay bias.

You are correct Milo. BUTCH=act. A gay guy rides a horse for the first time in his life. He's all squeely and such. Comments on how the horse stood there and took a piss and how funny that was. Tells his gay friends, and they reply; "Oh, honey, you're SO butch".

LOL!!!

That reads like one of those jokes that start out: " A priest, a minister, and a rabbi walk into a bar..."

versus a young gay youth that has been 'babied' by his family for years; encouraged in the behaviour by a manipulative friend and adult men...who rides a horse for the first time, visibly shaking and flapping his hands around desperately as he approaches it..."it's too BIG!! what if it bites me!!"

adult man looks him in the eye and tells him to take a deep breathe and get on...he can do it. He pleads with the man to hold the horse for him so it 'wont run away or buck or anything"..but encouraged, he DOES get on...

and after a couple of times, he gets on by himself and rides very matter of factly..but walks a bit taller and the mannerisms start to fade..though I cant' imagine he will ever be in a foxhole anywhere...

Cover your eyes for this, Jess. Once upon a time, I saw an, uh, "erotic film" purely by accident, I just turned on the teevee and there it was Grin. Anyways, it had a "western theme", which pretty much means aspiring Hollywood actors duded up in Western wear from the International Male catalogue.

So before the boys git down to business, they go thru the painful business of "acting" according to the "plot"...now its been said by Jack Malebranche that porn is carnal truth, i.e., whatveer their politcs and beliefs/wishful thinking on what constitutes masculinity, when guys are paying for the experience(not that I was paying, you understand), they want to be looking at manly men. Scott Glenn in Urban Cowboy, not Nathan Lane in "The Birdcage" basically. So these "actors" were regular acting guys, not fairies, but they were likely city boys and their physcial exercise most likely come from lifting weights at a Hollywood gym, sure as Hell not from running 12 miles of fence after a t-storm or pitching out stalls.

So the magic moment comes around, our heros set out for a "horseback ride" and you can tell from the body language not only had these guys never been on or near a horse in their lives, but the blond was plainly scared shitless of the savage beast (20 if it was a day, tame as tabby cat, likely spent its life giving gentle pony rides to small children at a zoo somewheres) and when time come to mount the trusty steed, he had a look of un-acted fear as if he was attempting to hop a moving train while the cops were shooting at him. Took me right out of the moment, I was laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes.

When the action shot came around, you could see it wasnt the same horse he was on, must of fussed so much they got a large stuffed animal for the boys to ride and projected a movie of Monument Valley in the background while they "rode" up to the nekkid swimming hole.

Lets hope the hired someone to give these guys lessons in making it look real, ot at least make it bad enough to be entertaining.

AJ saw a 'erotic film'??  Shocked Shocked Shocked

I am shocked....

and him a military man! I cant' believe a fine upstanding member of our armed forces would ever allow himself to watch ANY movie with nekked people in it...

assuming that an 'erotic film' has any nekked people in it...me being innocent of such things...
