Commenter posted on UK Telegraph website:

I-phone man takes his identity from global fashion
cities (Manhattan, Paris, London, Berlin) and partakes of their glamour
via Google, Facebook, Starbucks etc. Only Neanderthals belong to
countries, morality does not rise above hip. The New York Times
bemoan the incident in Paris as a distraction from the real problems of
the world, Climate Change, transgender bathrooms, etc,the latest weapons
in the global culture war: the continuing injustice of Colonialism
against the oppressed. Iphone man is the antithesis of Colonial-man.

Iphone man sees terror as a legitimate weapon against
Colonialism, even as he films it on his iphone. The solution, he is
convinced, lies in the destruction of the old forms of power and
authority, be it, Christianity, nation states, capitalism, prudery, and
most of all dogma. Iphone man sees the world order as emerging much
like open source software, evolving app upon app. The Google guys are
his statesmen, politicians are relics. Mourning the dead? Another I AM
Paris APP, yawn–Iphone man sees himself invincible, because he doesn’t
have to be tied down to a country. Bomb him on Paris today, and he’ll
show up in his Manhattan Starbucks tomorrow.

Nicely written, and accurate commentary. Luckily, there are young men and women out there who are choosing not to embrace this path of socialization. I wish them the all the best and hope that they will be able to thrive in a world full of iPhone Men.

Yes - a young Australian woman who was wounded in the Bataclan theatre massacre said in an interview that so many young people died "because they covered others with their bodies and would not leave their friends".

That's the kind of character I'm talking about. My brother was one of the guys helping get the injured to medical care after the Boston Marathon bombing. Some young men joined in, others stood there recording the incident with their iPhones.
